The Childrens' Ward Play Area offers the Hospital's younger patients a respite from their treatment and a place
where they can enjoy some relatively normal child friendly fun.
As well as playing an important role in the emotional well being of our little patients, the area is also used to stimulate and develop the children's rehabilitation from their treatment through play and education therapy.
In recent weeks the play area has been on the receiving end of some makeover magic thanks to the Talents of Muralist Jenny Finn. Jenny's first brushstrokes have revitalised this area already, turning it into a child friendly zone for positive play. It doesn't stop there, wall by wall the Ward will benefit from further sprucing up thanks to the Foundation and Jenny. Keep an eye out on our news pages for further updates.
Thanks to the valued support of donors and sponsors this work has been made possible but we need your help to make it continue. Please give generously and help us bring this vital facility back to life.
Townsville's Surgical Theatre 8 are calling on our services to help them fund an amazing piece of equipment that will revolutionise the way paediatrics surgery is performed.
The MicroLux DLX Camera System costs in the region of $17,000 but is worth it's weight in gold, particularly when operating on tiny patients thanks to the ability to improve precise small fields surgery.
The camera will help minimise the after effects of invasive surgery and improve our young patients chances of a full and speedy recovery.
The camera can also help to train junior doctors or eliminate the need for displacing key personnel as images can be 'beamed' onto a screen via conference call.

The generous sponsorship received from AMIEU has recently resulted in the purchase of a BiPAP Vison Comprehensive Ventillator System for the benefit of Townsville Hospital's Emergency Department and it's patients.
Since 2004, employees of AMIEU have paid $1 a week direct from their pay via a salary sacrifice scheme to help us finance this cutting edge equipment that will save the lives of those most at risk as they are treated in Townsville Hospital's emergency department. In particular, the BiPAP will aid those who suffer chronic respiratory conditions whilst they are treated by ED.
The BiPAP assists ventillation during emergency treatment and eliminates the need for invasisve procedures which can lead to extended recovery. To celebrate the fundraising efforts of the AMIEU workers, this amazing piece of equipment will be officially in the coming weeks.
New Arrivals spell better facilities for Mums & Dads to be Thanks to the Foundation, some 20 maternity chairs are making life a little easier for couples as they learn what to expect from life as a new parent.
The chairs have furnished a teaching facility that regularly holds anti natal classes teaching skills such as breastfeeding techniques and all manner of 'need to knows' prior to birth.
Due to their ergonomic design, the chairs now offer a safe, clean and comfortable alternative at a time when mobility is reduced. The chairs form part of a project we are undertaking to upgrade the teaching facility to become a more pleasant and relaxing environment for soon to be parents.

Although the final tally is yet to be confirmed, Give Me 5 for Kids, which was held in June 2009 is shaping up to be a great success. (Photo: Courtesy of 4TO - Kathy prior to her Red Barron Flight)
With the proceeds from money raised, the Foundation will purchase a quantity of Pulse Oximeters and distraction therapy items for the Childrens Ward, thanks to the generosity of the Townsville Community and the tireless efforts of the team at 4TO.
The team at 4TO held station lock-ins, Brekkie Barbies, On air Auctions and called in a few favours from friends to help them raise money for the sick kids.
Each year, the RSL Womens Auxiliary make an extremely generous donation towards 102.3 4TO fm's Give me 5 For Kids. This year was no different, these lovely ladies joined with the RSL Association management to raise in excess of $11,000. We thank and congratulate them for their support for this cause!
