As a detour from their busy practice schedule, The US Thunderbirds flew in to thrill the sick kids in the Townsville Hospital's Children's ward.
The crew of the world famous military aerobatics team spent an hour chatting and entertaining sick kids unable to attend this weekend's airshow.
Some budding pilots may have been discovered throughout the course of the visit as the kids joined the Thunderbirds in the task of making model airplanes and flying them.
The visit was coordinated by the Townsville Hospital Foundation with the assistance of RAAF media representatives from RAAF Amberley,Sqdn Leaders Simon Paton and Lenn Bayliss.
Stephanie Nolan of the Townsville Hospital Foundation counts the visit as one of the highlights of the year for both children and staff alike, saying;
"It was wonderful to see the kids faces light up when they discovered the Thunderbirds had made a special trip to the hospital to see them."
"It's pretty difficult for a child to spend time in hospital under normal circumstances and even more so when a major event is unfolding in Townsville."
"The Thunderbirds visit went a long way towards making sure the kids didn't miss out on all the action and of course this makes it all worthwhile."
