JCU taking the lead with 5km Run Sponsorship

James Cook University is well known for its support of local health services in North Queensland, especially when it comes to working with the Townsville Hospital and Health Service. This support has now extended to the health services own charity, the Townsville Hospital Foundation and their upcoming Move It Festival.

As the Sport and Exercise Science degree is so popular amongst the local community, it wasn't a hard decision for JCU to sponsor an event which fits perfectly with the goals and focus of the course. Fiona Barnett, Head of Sport & Exercise Science of James Cook University, believes the 5km Race Sponsorship is beneficial in giving back to the health service which supports their students.

‘JCU is pleased to be a race sponsor for the Townsville Hospital Foundation Move It Festival 2018. The Sport and Exercise Science Discipline has a focus on the role of physical activity and exercise in the enhancement of health and performance in occupational, educational, sport, exercise and leisure settings. Our focus aligns well with the Move It Festival activities.’

Townsville Hospital Foundation General Manager, Judy Higgins-Olsen, a graduate of the Sport and Exercise Science program at James Cook University, was thrilled with the Race Sponsorship for Move It Festival, which will encourage locals to get moving and stay active.

‘As the tertiary hospital of North Queensland, The Townsville Hospital enjoys a wonderfully positive and productive relationship with James Cook University. Having JCU on board as the 5km race sponsor is an excellent fit  for Move It Festival, with both our organisations dedicated to providing positive physical activities and encouraging the community to be involved and to remain or become active.’

The James Cook University 5km Run is set to be very popular amongst amateur and first time competitors with prizes such as Mizuno Running Shoes on offer to the place holders in each age group. To Register for the 5km Run or other Move It Festival events, click here.
